PIONEER HIGH SCHOOL
AP BOOT CAMP
Summer 2018
Summer sessions will be planned once 2018-2019 student numbers are available

If multiple sessions are scheduled, just remember, all sessions cover exactly the same material so choose only one.  If you sign up for one, and then have to switch, please let Mr. Guemmer know BEFORE your session starts!  If you sign up and cannot make it, also let Mr. Guemmer know!!

What is the AP Boot Camp Curriculum?
Students can attend a three-day session to work on strengthening their academic foundations and refining their advanced learning skills in general. We focus on team building, time management, AP level essay defining and time management skills. The idea is to prepare them for taking an AP course for the first time in their high school career.

Who can attend?

Any Pioneer student who is planning to take an AP History class for the first time.  (Currently only AP Euro is offered)

Is the Boot Camp required in order to take an AP class?
No, but students who take the Boot Camp can get more detailed explanations the types of assignments they will be given during the school year and a clearer grasp of the increased workload that is typical in an AP class.

Where is the Camp?
The AP Boot Camp will be held on the PHS campus in and around D205.

What about transportation?
Students will need to find his/her own means of getting to and from Pioneer High School for their Boot Camp sessions.

What should students bring?
On the first day, paper, pencils and pens, to write down some notes. Any additional materials will be explained at the Boot Camp.

What courses are supported by the Boot Camp?
With our first boot camp in 2010, we started with European History AP for 10th grade and US History AP for 11th grade.  We hope to expand the program as more teachers, parents and students see the benefit of the program. For the 2018 Boot Camp, only AP Euro will be available. APUSH students if you want your own boot camp, convince Mrs. Ott that you want it!

Are there any costs?
Not at the present time, but we may charge a nominal fee to cover some material costs, such as snacks. Currently the Boot Camp has no funding from the school district.

When is the Camp?
There may be 1 to 3 scheduled sessions of three days each, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.  -  See above

How do students sign up?
First students must be accepted into an AP class.  Information will be distributed at that time on how to sign up for the Boot camp session, additionally emails through Aeries and Remind will be sent to AP students.  If you don't read your emails, don't blame us when you don't find out about stuff!!! Parents, if you're reading this, you need to get enrolled into Aeries, if you have not done so already, that way you can receive the same information.
