Seal of Biliteracy
The State Seal of Biliteracy, marked by a gold seal on the diploma or transcript, recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing one or more languages in addition to English.Eligibility Academic English Proficiency (must meet ALL)
- Scored Met or Exceeded Standard on 11th grade SBAC in English Language Arts
- Passed 4 years of English classes with an average GPA of 2.0 or above
- If an English Learner, attain an Early Advanced or Advanced overall score on ELPAC
Demonstrate Proficiency in one or more languages by ONE of the following:
- Pass the Advanced Placement with a score 3 or better
- Pass the SAT II foreign language exam with a score of 600 or higher
- Passed 4 years of World Language classes in same language with an average GPA 3.0 or above (Interview and on -demand writing sample will be required)
- For other languages where no test or classes are available, students must pass a reading, writing, and oral assessment to verify language competency.
- Proficient in American Sign Language (must present valid certificate of passing exam or pass district exam)
District Criteria (must meet ALL)
- Submit an application of intent for this recognition in Fall of Senior year
- C or better on Writing Assignment in Senior English Course
- Meet all district and state criteria for receiving a high school diploma
