Why summer training:  It helps to prepare you for the season and most importantly to help you stay injury free.  Running is a sport that if you are not physically prepared when the season starts the possibility of injury increases dramatically.  If you are trying to improve your ability from past seasons you must train regularly over the summer. You don’t want to burn yourself out before the season even begins though, don’t go crazy!

Days and Times: My plan is to run three days a week starting on June 25! You are always welcome to run sooner if you feel like it but don’t overdo it. We will be running 3-5 miles most days at a conversation pace. My goal is for you to be able to comfortably run 4-6 miles by the time season starts. I am okay with changing the days or start time if something else works better for more people. The current plan is as follows:

  • Starting June 25th: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday at 9am
  • We will meet near the PHS track or in my room (S108)

Tips for Summer Running:

  • Check your running shoes, if they seem worn down or it has been over a year since you have had them I recommend getting a new pair.
  • HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE this summer will be very hot, and it will only get worse as we approach the season and start practicing in the afternoons. You must drink water and stay hydrated, especially if you will be out and about after practices.
  • Speaking of heat, wear sunscreen or at least a running hat! Some of our runs will take longer than 60 minutes to get through.
  • Don’t overdo it, the goal is to get into shape before the season begins to avoid injury. We are not expecting fast times during summer training.
